If that's too tedious for you, there exists, luckily, a quicker way. Join up with several of the "affiliate tracking web sites". These are organizations that operate the affiliate sales tracking and fee disbursements for a lot of businesses. You are able to select the businesses that appeal to you from their inventory. They also e-mail you whenever a new supplier joins their system. This spares you the time spent on trying to find suppliers, but the banner job still needs to be done. "How much commission will I be paid?"

There are no fixed rules. You'll very likely opt for those affiliate programmes that pay out a minimum of 4% for consumer goods such as TVs and games consoles. Digital products such as ebooks and computer software might pay out 50% or higher! 25% is common for financial products. Insurance agencies might hand you $5 simply for sending a prospective client, without selling anything, and $70 if the prospective client purchases a policy. You might be surprised at some of the businesses that run affiliate programs, even giant ones, such as Sears, Walmart, Argos, Sony...

"Is there anything else I will require?"

Persistence. Do not count on results immediately. It might need some time and effort at your end, but success will come to you for certain. The measure of your success is generally dependent on your hard work in the early months. Eventually, your business will attain critical mass and begin to snowball.
